All trees in question sit within area W1 of the TPO 2642014 located behind (West of) numbers 23-25 Underwood (see detailed plan in attached document).
This application relates to items 2 - 6 inclusive in the attached plan and outlined below.
These works have been approved by the landowner - Story Homes Ltd.
Item 2 - the removal of a twin stemmed sycamore behind 25 Underwood - this does have signs of some damage which may lead to future disease and weakness but the primary reason for removal is to create space in the area of woodland for more light to reach the woodland floor and neighbouring gardens.
Item 3 - removal of young ash trees with ash dieback adjacent to the PROW and causing shading of gardens below, these are in a mixed stand of ash, hazel, hawthorn and blackthorn. The remaining trees will benefit from additional light by removal of these trees.
In place of these trees it is proposed to plant a mixture of hawthorn and blackthorn along the fenceline behind number 25 to add to existing young trees and create a scrubby/hedgerow area for the benefit of nesting birds.
Item 4 - removal of lower branches of sycamores above the garden of 24 Underwood, lifting the crowns to allow more light in.
Item 5 - pruning of a number of trees close to the boundaries of number 24 and 25 Underwood (see detailed plan). Behind 25 - laying of larger hawthorn next to fenceline (and planting of additional hawthorn/blackthorn whips to create a hedge line) plus coppicing of hazel stool to allow regrowth. Behind 24 - coppicing of sycamore stools to create more light.
Item 6 - gradual removal of laurel adjacent to PROW behind number 25 to allow expansion of holly bushes currently being smothered. |
